NASTC SLEEP APNEA SOLUTION

We just got back from the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville and I want to thank everyone that took the time to stop by our booth to say hi and introduce themselves to the NASTC team. It is always good putting a name with a face and getting to meet the people that make everything happen-YOU! We were not only busy at our booth in the South Wing, but we also hosted another successful NEST Class that was very well attended. We also had the chance to participate in the Driving your Health & Wellness breakout session that was hosted by The Little Clinic who has been a valuable partner with NASTC for the last two years. We continue to work together on driver health issues and DOT recertifications using their expertise in this area and they are a major sponsor in the publishing of our NASTC Certified Medical Examiner Directory, with our 2nd edition coming soon. Look for the stand alone mailing in late May or early June to all of our member companies. The CME Directory is a valuable resource that is available to you as a NASTC Member and we encourage you to share our CME locations with your drivers.

We have also recently partnered with MAYS and Associates to help with the administration and interpretations of our 3 channel testing program. MAYS and Associates gives our members and their drivers access to a full service Durable Medical Equipment provider that is ready to assist you and your drivers with a full line of CPAPs and replacement supplies.

Our pulse ox driver screening program continues to grow and we are in the final stages of integrating this process with our Management & Safety Program (MSP).

Our goal is to help you and your drivers be proactive before renewing their CDL to help alleviate any last minute issues regarding Sleep Apnea.

We are coming up on the 2nd anniversary of when the Certified Medical Examiner requirement went into effect on May 21, 2014. Many of your drivers will be going for their DOT medical cards for the first time since then and you should be aware that many of these drivers will be given a 90 day card and told to "get a sleep study. We can help them with this process if they are tagged for obstructive sleep apnea. We have the ability to perform an in home/in cab 3 channel confirmation test through this program. The whole process takes a week to ten days while your driver keeps the wheels moving.

The NASTC Sleep Apnea Program starts with an overnight O2 screening well in advance of your DOT Medical Card recertification date. Our program is completely confidential and the results of any screening tests that are performed through our program will only be reported back to your driver. If a 3 channel confirmation test is needed, NASTC can help with an in home/in cab test. CPAPs and replacement supplies are also available. We can also assist any driver that is currently using CPAP therapy with a letter of compliance that is signed by a board certified sleep doctor. Again the goal is to be proactive and prepared well in advance of your DOT physical.

Please give David, Skip or Nicole a call at the office for more information on the NASTC Sleep Apnea Solution.
